Below we’ll take you through some of the most common questions about the TOEFL exam, how to register, and how to succeed on test day.
What is the Structure of the TOEFL Exam?
The TOEFL test is scored from 0-120, with 30 points possible on each of the four sections (reading, writing, listening and speaking).
Each section measures the test-taker’s ability to understand and use English typically used in an academic classroom.
The test takes just under two hours to complete. Starting in January 2026, the TOEFL
will become adaptive, adjusting to each student’s level, and each of the four sections will be slightly shorter.
How Do I Register for the TOEFL Exam?
The TOEFL test is administered by ETS (Educational Testing Service), and registration is done through their website.
You can register to take the test at a TOEFL test center or choose to take the TOEFL At Home version of the exam.
Select the date and location that works for you and start studying!
Note: While many institutions do accept the TOEFL At Home test, there are some that do not accept it, so be sure to confirm that your institution accepts this option before registering for the At Home test.
